POTALIVO, Luisa (nee Defazio)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luisa Potalivo on Tuesday March 2, 2021, at Niagara General hospital at the age of 87. She has been reunited with her husband of 58 years, Michael Potalivo (2015). A loving and devoted mother to Phyllis (Nick) D’Ascenzo, Frances (John) Foresi, and her son, William (Judy) Potalivo. A cherished grandmother to Nicole D’Ascenzo, Amanda (Mike) Nye, Michelle (Mike) Maluski, Daniel (Kathryn) Foresi, Michael and Andrew Foresi, Charlie, Victoria, Julia Gibson, Flora Potalivo and her great grandchildren, Theodore Foresi, and Emilia Nye. She was a loyal sister to the late Joseph (Colleen) Defazio, late Irene (late Nick) Rizzi, late Frank (Antoinette) Defazio, Carmela (late John) Passinisi, late Annita (late Vince) Cortese, Vince (Jenny) Defazio, Tony (Kathie) Defazio. Loving sister-in-law of Rino (Verena) Potalivo, Mario (Luisa) Potalivo, the late Ettore (the late Nicoletta) Potalivo, the late Alfredo (Sandina) Potalivo and the late Flora (the late Nicola) Daniele. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Luisa was a very warm and compassionate person. She had a strong devotion to God and accepted his will. During life’s challenges her favorite saying was 'It’s in God’s hands'. She cherished her family and friends, creating a shrine of pictures in her apartment and praying for them endlessly. She was a talented seamstress and cook. She showed her love by cooking and baking and she will live on when we share a meal with her recipes. Her mind was sharp right to her final days remembering everyone by name, never missing a birthday or anniversary. A special thank you to her longtime cousin and dear friend, Mary Pizzacarola who watched over her like an angel during her challenging years and the wonderful caring nurses on the Trillium Ward at Greater Niagara General Hospital. We were blessed to have her in our lives and she taught us all so much especially how to walk in faith with God. She will always be remembered for her love, kindness, strength, and perseverance. Family, friends, and faith were her utmost importance. Respecting the government restrictions of COVID-19, including the requirement of pre-booked appointments (by calling 905-358-3513 between 9 am and 5 pm), friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, for visitation Friday from 6 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Luisa's life will be held Saturday at St. Thomas More Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In memory of Mrs. Potalivo, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. Thomas More Church), and would be appreciated.
